Funding Application

Who can apply for a grant?

If you, your child or dependent have been diagnosed with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), you can apply to the BBS for a grant. You need not be a member of the Society but we will ask that you consider joining. Applications must be supported by a Letter of Support from a healthcare professional such as an Occupational Therapist or a Physiotherapist.

What do we help fund?

We can supply manual and powered wheelchairs, trikes, buggies and other types of equipment. We do not usually fund higher education fees or 'white goods' e.g. hobs, cookers or fridges, soft furnishings or building works. We can occasionally help with holidays or respite care. We cannot accept applications for retrospective funding.

How does our funding work?

We are usually able to fund only part of the cost of equipment from our own resources. We therefore need to seek additional funding from other charitable organisations.

If the applicant's family is able to assist with the costs or to help fundraise towards the costs, or NHS funding is available, this will speed up the entire process. In section 9 of the form, we therefore ask you to let us know how much you can contribute towards the equipment either personally or through NHS funding.

Once the funding process for equipment has been completed, we place the order with the manufacturer and it is supplied direct to the applicant. Once the equipment has been delivered you are responsible for insurance and maintenance.

What happens next?

We will let you know as soon as possible whether your application has been approved and whether we are seeking additional funding

If you are not sure about the equipment/other assistance you need, about how to complete the grant application form, or you would like an update on the progress of your application please contact us on 01382 204 446 or email bbs@brittlebone.org
