Support Grants

Support Grants

We offer two types of support grants:

1. Funding towards essential equipment

We can fund manual and powered wheelchairs, trikes, buggies and other types of equipment. We do not fund Higher Education fees or ‘white goods’ (e.g. hobs, cookers, fridges, soft furnishings or building works). We can very occasionally help with holidays or respite care. We cannot accept applications for retrospective funding. For full details and to apply for funding please download our Equiment-Application-Form.docx.

2. Subsidised entry to events

We offer partial funding towards attending our annual conference. There are no additional charges for Kids Club (age 0 to 10 years) or for Cool Bones (age 11 to 15 years). We also offer a free event for 16 to 30 year olds each year called VOICE, and we host a variety of one day Patient Day events across the UK and Ireland. For more information on conference grants please see our events page.

Who can apply?

If you or your child/dependent have been diagnosed with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), and live in the UK or Republic of Ireland you can apply to the BBS for a grant. You do not need to be a member of the Society, but we ask that you consider joining.

How does our equipment funding work?

Applications for equipment must be supported by a letter of support from a healthcare professional such as an Occupational Therapist or a Physiotherapist.

If you are applying for funding towards a Wheelchair we would expect you to have been in touch with your local NHS Wheelchair services first.  This is required to confirm the mobility equipment you need cannot be provided by the NHS and that our additional assistance is needed.  You may also qualify for a personal wheelchair budget voucher if you live in England. https://www.england.nhs.uk/personal-health-budgets/personal-wheelchair-budgets/

Please contact us if you need assistance in getting an assessment.

Once the funding process for equipment has been completed, we place the order with the manufacturer and the equipment is supplied directly to the applicant. Once it has been delivered you are responsible for the insurance and maintenance. You can download a list of insurance companies here: Mobility-Insurance.pdf

If you would like to contact us for more information, or you would like an update on the progress of your application, please contact us on 01382 204446 or email us.
